Ruby
The birthstone for July is the beautiful Ruby, known for its intense blood red colour, with the brighter the intensity of the red the more valuable it is. Rubies are considered one of the four main precious gemstones with Sapphire, Emeralds and Diamond. Even more surprisingly it is prized as “King of Gems” in many cultures.

Ruby Meaning & History
Its name comes from the Latin word “Ruber” meaning red. It was most commonly found in Burma for centuries, which was where the Royal Ruby of Burma was found. This Ruby was treasured by the royalty in Burma before it was eventually stolen. Rubies have also been mentioned in the Bible, describing those with beauty and wisdom. Even in modern culture Rubies are renowned and are used in popular movies and TV shows to represent powerful magic, for example Dorothy’s Ruby Slippers in The Wizard Of Oz and Melisandre’s magical necklace in Game Of Thrones.

Ruby represents love, courage, emotion and passion. Not only that it is believed that wearing a fine red ruby, would give the owner good fortune, thereby it is no surprise that rubies has been prized possessions of emperors and kings throughout history.
