The name itself derives from the Latin “aqua” meaning water and “mare” meaning sea due to its similarity to the beautiful blue sea. Its links to the sea does not end there, it is believed to be sacred to the Roman God Neptune, God of the sea, allowing sailors prosperous and safe voyages. The Romans also believed that the stone itself absorbs the atmosphere of young love, therefore has historically been given by the groom to his bride, celebrating their combined love.

The main location that Aquamarine is found is in Brazil, where the largest ever aquamarine gem was found weighing over 100kg! It has also been found in Angola, Nigeria, Russia and the USA to name a few.
